DIVA WORSHIP talks "DANGER"

Diva Worship group photo

Our favourite Sudbury glam punk trio, Diva Worship, just released their latest single "Danger." Despite the song's name, you can't help but feel safe in the glittery, muscly arms of Bosmo (guitar), Tiffany (bass) and Adam (drums), even when they slam your eardrums with fierce, loud, fuzzed out instruments!

Be sure to catch them at Sneaky Dee's tonight (August 3rd) to celebrate this latest release and keep your heavily shadowed eyes peeled for more of the Divas' upcoming stellar content!

(Links at the bottom)

How did the name Diva Worship come about?

Bosmo: 'Diva Worship' is a thing when queer people attach themselves emphatically to pop culture icons, such as Lady Gaga or Nikki Minaj. I wanted a name that could be identifiably queer, so that others from the tribe can get a sense of what our deal is before listening. It's also the name of one of my personal favorite episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race (Season 11, Episode 3).

Which Divas do you worship?

Tiffany: We worship all divas.

Adam: Yes, all divas are valid.

Tiffany: But for real, Brody Dalle...

Bosmo: Yeah, too many divas really. Big ones for me are Karen O, Exene Cervenka, Poly Styrene, Lady Gaga, Grimes, Henry Rollins and Raja Gemini.

How would you describe your sound?

Bosmo: Crunchy and simple. Lots of fun :)

What's the story behind your new single "Danger?"

Bosmo: TW: self-harm.

I wrote the song right when I moved into my house in Sudbury, when COVID first hit early 2020. I wrote this before I had begun doing major ptsd-treatment, and I had unhealthy coping mechanisms including one where I would beat the shit outta myself to get myself to calm down. Just punching, slapping, etc. Really not cute, and I'm quite embarrassed that that was how I used to regulate my emotions. But ya, I felt like I was a danger to myself because of the self-harm narrative. And there's a bit in the song about breaking the neighbors down; that's just about how I imagine they were all sick of me hollering and wailing on my guitar in my basement. *Don't hurt yourself, please seek help and treatment*

When you want to see live music in Sudbury, where are you going and who's on the lineup?

Bosmo: In Sudbury, right now the two main venues for the hot shows are Townehouse Tavern and The Lounge. I'm going to the Townehouse, cause they have chicken burgers. It's probably going to be some local bands featuring members of other local bands, and everyone knows each other, then one out of town band will play in the middle like a fun music Oreo. A good change, B.A. Johnston will be there.

What's next for Diva Worship? Any plans for an album?

Bosmo: We are releasing an album in October! We are periodically releasing singles/music videos up until October; with our last release 'Obsession', followed by this release 'Danger' and two more before the 10-song album drops. There's a funny recording of Poker Face by Lady Gaga on the album; hopefully we don't get a cease and desist.

We have a release show on August 3rd in Toronto at Sneaky Dee's. We are also excited to be opening up for PUP at Up Here Festival this August. After that, we'll be writing new songs and might release a covers EP/Album.

Any bands you'd like to give a shoutout?

Bosmo: Shout out to Faiyaz & the Wasted Chances, Unknown Voidz, Tall Pork, Fauxcils, and Ruby Waters (she talked to me after our River and Sky set and was soo nice!)

Anything else you'd like to add?

Bosmo: Start a band! Book a show! Gotta keep the tradition of booking safe spaces for baby queers to hang out and feel real. Keep fighting the good fight! Stay alive!
